Coronavirus Update : Biggest 1 day spike in COVID-19 cases take India's tally past 1 Million
With the highest single-day spike of over 34,956 cases, the coronavirus count in India crossed the one million or the 10 lakh-mark. The death toll rose to 25,602, including 687 in the past 24 hours. According to the data provided by the Union Health Ministry, now India has over 3,42,473 active COVID-19 cases, whereas the total coronavirus count stands at 1,003,832. While the recoveries rose to 6,35,756 including a record number of 22,942 number of patients declared cured in 24 hours. Overall, the number of total cases and recoveries see their biggest single-day rise in the last 24 hours. The increase in the death toll is the second biggest-spike.
It was for the sixth consecutive day that COVID-19 cases have increased by more than 28,000. The huge surge has led several states to reimpose lockdown for varying periods. Maharashtra continues to report the highest number of cases, followed by Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Karnataka, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana. India has now become the third country to report over 1 million cases after the US and Brazil.
