Rahul Gandhi resigned, who's next?
Speculations started on the name of upcoming Congress president after Rahul Gandhi declared that now he will not be serving the grand old party in the capacity of national president. Gandhi released an open letter in which he said "As president of the Congress party, I am responsible for the loss of the 2019 election. Accountability is critical for the future growth of our party. It is for this reason that I have resigned as Congress president." In his four-page emotional goodbye letter, he also mentioned that numerous people will have to be made accountable for the failure of 2019 but it would be unjust to hold others accountable and ignore his own responsibility. Meanwhile, he straightway refused to nominate any name for new president so probably the new president will not be from the Gandhi-Nehru family.
As per the sources for the selection of the new president, Congress Working Committee will call a meeting within one week. Until then senior Congress leader Motilal Vora will serve as interim Congress chief.
After Rahul who is next is the big question for Congress. Speculations are strong on the names of Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot, deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot, Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Jyotiraditya Sindhiya. As far as Priyanka Gandhi is concerned, her chances of getting promoted to party president are very few.
