Shimla: Crisis on stone fruits due to drought in Himachal
In Himachal Pradesh, the heat in the month of March has broken the record of the last seven decades. Up to 40% damage to cherries, plums, apricots, almonds, peaches in low altitude areas; Growing concern for farmers. For the first time in 69 years, Shimla's minimum temperature has reached 18 degree Celsius. This time due to the long dry spell, the clouds of trouble have started hovering over the stone-fruits. According to the latest estimates conducted by the Horticulture Department in Rampur area of Shimla, the crop of cherry, almond, apricots, plums, peach has been damaged by 30 to 40 percent in low altitude areas.
