Second National Science Day Symposium was Organized at Jaypee University
The grand celebration of National Science Day for the year was organized at the Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), Waknaghat, Solan with a series of activities that includes an offline quiz, poster and model competitions, offline workshops, online plenary talks. These events were conducted in the last two weeks, however, National Science Day Symposium (NSDS) was organized in online mode on 28th Feb 2023. The event was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of JUIT Prof. Rajendra Kumar Sharma, Dean of Academics and Research Prof. Ashok Kumar Gupta along with the Head of the Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics, Prof. Sudhir Kumar, and Head of the Department of Physics & Materials Science, Prof. P.B. Barman, other faculty members, students, and partcicipants.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Tiratha Raj Singh, Dr. Ragini Raj Singh, and Dr. Shikha Mittal. Dr. Ragini gave a brief introduction to National Science Day and its scientific importance. Prof. Ashok Kumar Gupta in his talk mentioned that “If you really study Science, it will bring you closer to God”. Prof. Rajendra Kumar Sharma addressed the students of different schools including Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Bijhori, Hamirpur and Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Sekhewal, Ludhiana, and explained to them how Science can help today’s youth in nation-building or development.
After the inauguration, three plenary talks were delivered. The very first talk was delivered by Prof. P.B. Barman, HoD, Department of Physics and Materials Science, JUIT. Prof. Barman talked about various branches and dimensions of Physics and how Physics can be useful in everyday life. The next talk was delivered by Prof. Sudhir Kumar, HoD, Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, JUIT. Prof. Kumar discussed the Offshoots for the school students and how they can help in improving the learning for the students. Third and the last talk was delivered by Dr. Tiratha Raj Singh, Associate Professor, at JUIT. Dr. Singh described about a relatively new domain of Bioinformatics and explained how mother biological sciences and father information sciences gave birth to a beautiful and smart child named Bioinformatics.
All the awards for poster and quiz competitions were declared by Prof. Rakesh Kumar Bajaj and Dr. Neel Kanth respectively. Finally, the NSDS-2023 event was concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Shikha Mittal. With more than 250 registrations for the online event and the active participation of school students made this event a grand success. It is to mention that Jaypee University is organizing such events on regular basis for the school and college students for the promotion of science and technology.
