New Covid Strain Found In UK Not Seen In India So Far: Centre
In a routine press briefing, Niti Aayog’s Dr. VK Paul said there was no cause for concern for the new strain of coronavirus found in the UK. A mutated and more aggressive strain of the novel coronavirus - which was first identified in the United Kingdom in September - has not been seen in India so far. He said the new strain of Covid-19 in the United Kingdom has increased transmissibility. This mutation is not affecting the severity of the disease. Case fatality is not affected by this mutation.
The new strain of the virus - initial data suggests it is at least 70 percent more easily transmitted - has sparked concern worldwide, amid surging infection rates in the UK and fears the first lot of vaccines may not be as effective against the mutation.
