Chandra Shekhar Azad was born on July 23, 1906, in Bhavra, Madhya Pradesh. Azad was a daring freedom fighter and a fearless revolutionary. In his early age he was the part of non cooperation movement but after suspension of the non-cooperation movement by Gandhi Ji in 1922, Azad became more aggressive. He joined Ram Prasad Bismil who had formed the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA), a revolutionary organisation.
Today is the 113th birth aniversary of Indian Freedom Fighter Chandrashekhar Azad.
- Chandra Shekhar Azad was popularly known as Azad.
- After the massacre of the Jallianwala Bagh which took place in 1919 , he decided to join the Non-Cooperation movement led by Mahatma Gandhi in 1920.
- Azad was just 15 years old when he was arrested for the first time for joining Gandhi's Non-Cooperation Movement.
- When Azad was produced before a judge, he gave his name as 'Azad', father's name as 'Swatantrata' (independence) and residence as 'Jail'.
- Azad was the chief strategist of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA).
- He executed Kakori Train robbery in 1925 and the killing of the assistant superintendent Saunders in 1928.
- Azad had made a pledge that the police will never capture him alive.
- After the death of Lala Lajpat Rai, Bhagat Singh also joined Azad to fight against British.
- On February 27, 1931, betrayed by one of the associates, he was besieged by the British police in Alfred Park, Allahabad. He fought valiantly but seeing no other way he shot himself with last bullet left and fulfilled his resolve to die a 'free man'.
